I recently found out about a Nintendo 3DS game called Mighty Switch Force. I know, I'm way behind the times on this one because it was released back in 2011.
I found out about this game because TheCompletionist added one of it's amazing songs to his favorite video game songs playlist here on the site. I really loved the music style and decided to purchase it and see what it was all about.
The game is a creative puzzle platformer where you use the 3D visuals to change the environment in order to get yourself through levels as quickly as possible. To manipulate the environment, you move blocks from the foreground to background which creates or removes platforms in the levels. You've also got your gun to help you destroy enemies along the way. One of my favorite parts is when you squish enemies into the 3DS screen by moving the blocks to the foreground at the right moment.
The game is relatively short, with only 16 levels, but it becomes really addictive when you try and beat the recommended "par" time for each stage. In TheCompletionist's own words, "It's a game you'll smile the whole way through."
I'm not sure if it's the catchy chip tune music, the quirky female characters in striped prison outfits, or the addictive gameplay...but he was right.
It is available for download at the price of $5.99 in the 3DS eShop. It is also available now on the Nintendo Wii U.
